Directorate of Gurdwara Elections, Govt. of N.C.T of Delhi was established in the year 1974 by an Act of Parliament called the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1971 and rules made there under mainly to conduct the election of 46 members from the general public and 9 members by way of Co-option to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for a period of 4 years for which electoral rolls are prepared and revised from time to time. The I^st, II^nd and III rd general elections were held in the year 1974, 1978 and 1995. The last general elections were held in June, 2002. The next general elections are likely to be held in the month of June-July, 2006. Apart from the above this Directorate is responsible to ensure that the provisions of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1971 and rules made there under are adhered by all concerned. Delimitation of Gurdwara wards and amendments in the Act & rules are also carried out by this Directorate.
